Our History
Storage Central's history begins in 2007 in Buenos Aires, Argentina when two brothers came together to start one of the country's first self-storage companies, Mas Espacio (www.masespacio.com.ar). After successfully building, fitting out and managing their stores in Argentina, one of the brothers began to look abroad for other opportunities. Inspired by the economic growth taking place in East Africa, the older of the two brothers, Gerardo Segura, decided to leave Argentina and build East Africa's first self-storage facility and regional chain. It was in 2016 that Gerardo teamed up with Nicholas Sadron and Storage Central was born.
To ensure the success of Storage Central in East Africa, the two co-founders put into action all of the business acumen they acquired while working in London, Buenos Aires, New York and Paris. Before Storage Central, Gerardo worked for 17 years in investment banking for Lehman Brothers in London and HSBC in Buenos Aires. During roughly the same time Nicholas was working in Princeton for Domain Associates before moving to Paris to work for LCF Rothschild. Both co-founders have MBAs, Gerardo from Thunderbird in the US and Nicholas from HEC in Paris, France.
It was on a trip to Mauritius that the two co-founders began to develop the businsess model for Storage Central seen today. It was there that they worked on the extension rollout of the company into East Africa and decided which East African cities they wanted to develop first and identified where in those cities Storage Central facilities should be located.
Today, Storage Central is preparing to launch its first facility on the Mombasa Road in Nairobi, Kenya. The company has hired a dynamic team of Kenyans and is looking forward to officially opening its doors in July 2020.
